She was about 5 years old at the time and wasn't too interested in learning how to do it right, but she enjoyed it all the same. At this time I had two dogs both of which were in double figures age wise and certainly couldn't do it as they weren't too mobile, so I decided to get another dog a bit younger.
I taught Neelix agility for a short time but it just wasn't his cup of tea, so I decided to try something else with them both. I searched a few American websites and got interested in the Disc Dogs and wondered if it was possible to get something like that going over here in the UK. The first step was to teach Millie and Neelix how to catch a Disc and bring it back, both were good at this from the word go. It took Neelix a short time, about a week, to get him to bring it back, which I managed to cure with clicker training. I had very limited resourses back then and found it difficult to promote the project so packed it in and turned to Flyball.
Millie and Neelix took to Flyball straight away, but it took slightly longer for my wife's (then partner's) new dog, Chakotay, who was about a year old at the time.
Chakotay was obtained from Thornberry Animal Sactuary when he was 10 months old and had been in their kennels since he was 4 months.
After about seven months and a few competitions we decided we'd had enough. Flyball is a team sport and we felt under pressure from the rest of the team to attend all competitions which we couldn't do due to work.
We were left again, looking for a dog activity that would suite our lifestyle, an activity that any dog can be used in (both Flyball and Agility use a lot of Border Collies), an activity you can practice any time (which you can't do with Flyball or Agility unless you've paid several hundreds of pounds on equipment, and got a large garden or permission from the local park owners), but the main thing was to find an activity that was fun (yes the others are fun but the dog has to take a certain route and most dogs doing either Flyball or Agility look very similar, with Disc the dog jumps when he wants and how he wants).I decided that Discs in the UK just HAD to happen and in June 2005 I put together this site. Although things moved slowly, and it is still difficult spreading the word, we still managed to do four competitions in 2006, with an astounding, 13 days of FrizbeeDogz booked, over 8 seperate events (so far) for 2007
With the success of our first season, and the death of my old dog Bobby, it was decided that we had space for one more FrizbeeDog, so we went out looking for a small terrier type dog and came home with Tuvok.
